The Elks' -house Warming. fast eve
ning was a great .success, as was
promised. Dancing occupied the ma
jor portion of the evening, but the
affair came to an appropriate close
with an elaborate banquef In : the
club's -spacious banquet, rooms. . Fol
lowing the banquet Misses Ruth Bush
and Anna Casey entertained . the
guests with music. A five-piece or
chestra occupied the music rostrum
and frequent applause came from the
dancers for the excellent numbers.
The large club building,, which ranks
as one of the ' most commodious in
eastern Oregon, is the pride of the

the Program. v
The first literary program to be
given by the high school .took place
yesterday afternoon. One of the feat
ures was a debate on the question,
"Resolved, That Taft should be elected
president" The Judges decided lit
favor of the hegatlve. . The author 61
the paper on' "Proposed Athletics"
strived to enthuse a more intensified
school spirit toward the football team
and when the school yell responded.
It was evident to all present that his
remarks bore fruit.
This was the first appearance of the
new high school orchestra, and It
was enthusiastically encored. ,
The following pieces arc represent
ed: Violin, Marble Green; cornet,
Ernest Funk; clarionet, David Stod
dard; piano, May Nelll. ,
Two weeks hence the tenth and
eleventh grades will be responsible for
the entertainment.
The following was yesterday's ex
cellent program:

son. II COLLEGE
The streets rang with yells and "tl
gers'.' lust night In a way that Imitated
a college town In a true style. For
the purpose of advertising their foot
ball game today the high school stu
dents banded themselves In a noise'
making organisation to supplant the
fire parade which was discarded. The
main Interest centered In the demon
tratlons downtown, where the rooters
under leadership of bis highness,
Grady, sent up lusty yells. The spirit
that animates a student body to such
demonstrations Is commendable, and
one that goes aa far toward winning
crucial games as the clever playing It
elf does.
The shouting and yelling came to an
end near the Central building, where
a bonfire and a war dance waa the
center of attraction. ', .
