Snow In Powder Valley.
"Good morning, Mr. Grunow, how
ls the weather?"
This question was asked the federal
weather observer this morning, and
here Is his reply: "This Is 'fair
weather," and he placed the accent on
the "fair." Those who have Grunow's
acquaintance know he is not a Joker
and Juxt why he should emphasize one
word of his reply Is a mystery. Then
the unapproachable official remarked;
"And, did you notice this morning,
thnt Powder valley had the flrnt snow
f the soasoti?"
The mountains and foothills hnve
had Know before, for yesterday after
noon the races were on' the fnl"
irrounls people looked toward Virtue
Flat and could see snow falling In the
foothills.
When asked If this meant that win-.
tor was with us to stay the weather
man snld there was no certainty of
that trt. and that Baker City may
have several weeks of very pleasant
sunshine yet this . fall. Baker City
