How To Be Happy
A bin full of flour and a shed full of,
first-class dry chain wood is enough to .'
make ANY man happy. Now the way to
fill the bin is to phone V. E. BEAN
to first fill the shed, which be done for
just half the cos of other fuel. This
would leave you plenty for the flour, and
some to help buy beefsteak and clothes
as well.

BAY STATE CANDIDATE.
Haverhill Man Seeks Legislative Nom
ination Promising to Work for Ap
propriution. Seattle, Oct. 16. (Special corres
pondence.) It's a long way from Se
attle to Haverhill, Ma?s., and . one
would not expect more than a general
Interest in the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific
exposition next year.' In this case,
however, there Is a deep local Interest
In Haverhill, and It Is owing to the
vigorous campaign made by George
Ward took, a candidate for the nom
ination to the Massachusetts legisla
ture. Mr. Cook, among other features
of his platform, Includes the follow
ing: "Will work to secure an adequate
representation and exhibit at the Se
attle exposition on tht Pacific coast
In 1909, to protect our commercial in
terests and secure further benefits.
Massachusetts manufactures amounted
to SI, 125.000,000 last year fourth In
the United States and we must not
risk losing any part of this by indif
ference or lack of energy."
Mr. Cook Is a successful manufac
turer of Haverhill and founded the
Haverhill board of trade. He takes a
keen Interest in affairs that will
prompt the Interests not onl yof his
state but also of the nation, being a
member of the American Forestry as
sociation, the National Good Roads
congress, ahd the National River and
Harbor congress. It was while at
tending the meeting of the governors
at the White House last fall that Mr.
Cook became Interested In the Seattle
fair, meeting Henry E. Reed, the dl-
-rctor of exploitation. At that time
Mr. Reed urged Massachusetts to
make an exhibit and Jokingly suggest
ed that Mr. Cook run for the legisla
ture and work for the appropriation.
Sir. Cook took the suggestion serious
ly however, and ' Is doing everything
possible to realize the hope of his old
Bay state being among those present
in 1909. As there are 30,000 former
residents and natives of New England
In this stute, there Is also much local
Interest.
