COUNT OP COUNTY VOTES.
With Only Four Names- to Vote for
Out of a Lint of 20, Voting and
Granting Will Be a Matter of Dis-
patch Sliarp Contrast With Long
Ballot of Last Spring.
There Is one consolation about hav
ing district and state elections at a
seperate time from the presidential
election, as there will not be as long
a suspense period from the time the
polls close until the ballots are count
ed In Union county, especially.
In sharp contrast to the long, com
plicated ticket of last spring, the bal
lot for the November election In this
county will contain omy the names of
the 20 presidential electors and the
men whom each group of four repre
sent Every man knows for whom he

it is very probable that the city of
La Grande will know how its presiden
tial vote stands, complete from every
precinct, . before midnight. With the
systematic manner of compiling elec
tion returns which The Observer has
heretofore demonstrated", a complete
table should be In the local office from
every precinct In the county before
daybreak. ;
For hs convenience of voters, there
Is published herewith a partial repe
tition of an article of recent date,
naming the presidential electors, but
which this time have a broader scope:

MANY ARE AT BAKER.
Good Weather AH That Is Needed to
Make it a Great Event.
Baker City, Oct. 15, All trains
leading to Baker are crowded with
passengers who are coming for the
fair. Commencing yesterday evening
the Sumpter Valley passenger train
brought In a load of interior people
to spend a few days here and today
trains from the east and west have
been heavily loaded with Baker City
passengers. Haines -people are attend
ing the fair in large numbers, and
many are coming from North Powder.
Huntington Is doing her share toward
making the county seat fair a success.
But, while towns along the railroad
are sending many delegations Eagle
and Pile valley people are also here.
They drive across the country a dis
tance of from 40 to 60 miles, and It is
noticeable that tHey always arrive In
Baker happy, seeming not in the least
tired from the overland Journay.
