The closing of the week finds the
high school football team rounding
into shape for the big event next Sat
urday when Baker City comes to par
ticipate. In the first bis game la the
city this season. The last hard prac
tice was held tonight and for the re
mainder of the week the drill will be
only such as will tend to put the fin
ishing touches , on new plays , the
coaches have worked out ,and taught
the team., , ,;
It appears that the weather will clear
before Saturday, thus permitting a
good atendance. V The high school
rooters are brushing up In songs and
yells, and while the locals are battling
with their old opponents on the field,
the more tender youths will do their
portion to aid to victory- by lusty
screeches from the side lines.

first annual agricultural fair to be
held In Elgin opens tomorrow, and
there Is every prospect for a splendid
attendance. The Masonic hall hag
been converted into a bower of sweet
smelling fruits and attractive agricul
tural products. The fair will continue
for two days with many special 'feat
ures to draw crowds. Each evening
there will be a public ball. During the
day time there will be musical attrac
tions at the headquarters in the na
ture of solos and Instrumental rendi
tions.
The exhibits are already In place
and the promoters are highly pleased
with the prospects for a successful
fair. Nothing will have been left un
done by tomorrow morning and with
favorable weather, the opening day Is
expected to find visitors ftora every
section of the valley. The Commer
clal club at Elgin extends a hearty
welcome to all to attend this Initial at
tempt at a local agricultural and fruit
fair.
