Railroad Commissioners Campbell
and West were In Baker City Saturday
-evening. They came up from Haines
In the afternoon aftvr hearing a case
wherein the shippers of Haines are
asking that the O. R. & N. railroad
company be forced to enlarge the stock
yards at that station. , The commis
sion took the matter under advisement
and will give, their decision later, says
the Herald.
Accompanying the commissioners
was A. C. Spencer, a member of the
legal department of the railroad com
pany. There was little that either
side had to say about the matter.
In speaking of Chamberlain's
chance to go to the senate Oswald
West said there Is no question but that
the governor will be elected by the
next legislature. He admitted that
there would be a strong effort made
to defeat him and expressed his belief
that a large sack of filthy lucre would
be raised for the purpose. He thinks
no senator or representative c?n afford
to go back on his pledge to the people.
