Murder Case In Baker City Brings Out
a New Sensation.
Tuesday forenoon was the time of
intense Interest In the Trapp murder
trial, which Is now in progress In the
circuit court Throughout the entire
affair there has been more or less
mystory about the matter and this in
a measure was lifted this morning
when D. R. Trapp, the accused man, j
took the stand to testify for himself,
says the Herald. . .
The main point Trapp endeavored to
make was that he ( was drugged before
he did the shooting and did not know
what he was doing. He said his wife
had gone to Ontario a short time be
fore for a vslt and the night preced
ing the shooting he began drinking
freely. According to his statement he
drank whisky with beer chasers, and
a good many of them, and : finally
landed at the "Honkltonk.V an out
lawry resort Just outside of Hunting
ton's city lllmts. There Trapp says he
drank a cocktail, after which he knew
nothing. He remembers of going to
a table or couch where he laid down,
but aside from that his recollection is
blank until officers had him on the
way from- Huntington to .Baker City.
Then his memory returned only for a
moment, long enough for him to rec
ognize Officer Hannon who had him

Trapp first knew things well.
All the time Trapp was giving that
part of his testimony each Juror sat
with his head forward, grasping every
word and apparently weighing It care
fully In hts mind.
Trarp said he was no habitual
drunkard, and that he frequently went
six months without taking a drink, al
though he admitted that the custom
among bartenders was to treat each
other whenever they were off duty.
He said he had no 111 feeling toward
Jasperson, the man whom he killed,
and -that ho remembered nothing of
getting the gun. Also that he had
never owned a gun and never had shot
a revolver In his life before.
The prisoner's evidence,- while in
teresting, crossed Itself in a few
places. What weight it will have
with the Jury remains to be een.

ed, those who heard it' were; unani
mous In their praise. The "Soldiers'
Chorus." rendered by the visiting mu
sicians and assisted by the tabernacle
choir was a masterly rendered number.
