Party of Railroad Men Strike
From Tito Dalles on Tour.

The Dalles, Oct. 6. W. F. Nelson,
of the Oregon Trunk Line and a par
ty, including R. J. Martin of Kansas
City, president of the Oregon Valley
Land company; K. A. Martin, an Irri
gation engineer, and H. A. Hunter of
the Oregon Military Road Grant com
pany, arrived in the city last night.
They left for an extended trip this
morning to go over the line of the
Oregon Trnuk through central Oregon
and down to the California boundury.
A big touring car arrived on one of
the boats last night ,rrom Portland,
and was used by the railroad men
this morning as they left ' for thei;
trip up the Deschutes valley to Ma
dras, Prlnevllle and central Oregon
points.
The party, It is said, will go over a
portion of he route of the Nevada,
California & Oregon railroad, which v
Is now building north, and has rails
laid within four miles of Lukeview.
While the Harrlmun system Is
breaking all records in getting survey-
Ing crews into central Oregon eo us to
beut the Trunk Line to the rich coun -
try in that part of the state, still, an
other line, the McCloud River railway,
has surveyors out working north from
the present terminus of the McCloud i
road at McGuvie in. Siskiyou county,'
California, to Klaamth Falls. Thl!
line was surveyed many years ago, j
und it was supposed that the McCloud
river line would be the first railroad
Into Klamath Falls. After bolng built
from Upton to McUavIe, however, the
Hue was abandoned so far as new work
was concerned, until the present sur
veying party was started -out.

Southern Puclflc line from Midland,
