tent to kill as a result of a stabbing
nd cutting fracas which occurred at
Barn saloon last night.
S&uaghnewiy admits that he stabbed
and cut Wilcox, who is the bartender
t the flam saloon.' He told the offl-
rs this morning that he went Into the
place last night where he had a few
drinks. . lie says that he had a valua
ble dog with him and thut he was go
ing to leave at 11:30 o'clock, and at
that time he could not find the canine.
He contends that Wilcox stole the an
imal and placed It In a room adjoin
ing the bar room.
When he tried to enter the room to
get his dog, he says that Wilcox push-
ted him away from the door and re
peated this performance when he tried
to gain admission to the room the
second time.
He told the officers that the third
time he attempted to gain admission
Into the room, where he claims his
dog was, that he drew his knife, that
Wilcox was too large a man for him
to fight openly. Shoughnesgy not only
drew his knife but used the weapon
as well. He cut the bartender across
the lower part of the stomach, causing
a long gush, then withdrawing the
knife, stabbed him in the shoulder,
and again stabbed him In the face, in
so doing the blade of. the weapon
broke off and was not removed from
the bartender's face until he was taken
to the sanatorium.

Pastor W. H. Gibson returned from
thes board meeting of the Mission
ary committee of the Grande Bonde
Baptist association last night and re
ports that by the end of the year the
Grande Bonde association Is to have
within Its bounds operating in Union,
Wallowa, Taker, Grant, Malheur and
Harney counties a gospel wagon sup
piled with a thorough outfit of Bibles,
literature, preacher, camping outfit,
etc., and fitted for thorough gospel
work in dustitute places. Mr. Gibson
will meet his regular appointments in
the city tomorrow.
