B. M. SHERWOOD, Prop.
Brouglicr Aids the Fallen,
Dr. J. Whltcomb Brougher, pastor
of the White Temple, and the mem
bers of his congregation have opened
their hearts and homes to the women
of the brothels of the city who desire
to lead better lives, says a Portland
paper. In a sermon last night on
"Women and Reform," Dr. Brougher
said If any f the inmates of the
houses of Ill-repute really desired to
lead better lives, the members of his
church would perhaps, give them a
better chance to start life over again
than they ever had. He made this
announcement In keeping with the
suggestion made Friday .by Mayor
Lane that if the good people of the
city really desired to do some good
4 1 they might take a few of the girls In
4 ' the houses of the North End which he
will soon order closed, and give them
employment and an opportunity to
become better women.
