APPENDICITIS EXPLAINED.
We have admitted that appendicitis
exists; we disclaim Its frequency.
Where the medical doctor and the os
teopath clash, however, and here the
osteopath gives no quarter, is in the
cause and treatment not only of ao
pendlcltla, but of all disease. Whn
appendicitis is present, we contend
that the condition Is the result of n
cause; the cause Is a mechanical one.
We go to the medical authorities to
prove our point. Both osteopath and
medical man admit that In this disease
there is congestion and following It.
Inflammation of the appendix through
interference with the blood supply.
(That Is what congestion really is).
The cure Is not In the removal of the
appendix, but In the removal of tho
constipation. The way to remove the
constipation Is through removal of the
cause of the constipation.
The cause of constipation is Inter
ference with the nerves controlling the
bowels and the intestinal blood supply.
This Interference Is mechanical an!
generally found at the point where the
nerves leave the spinal column. Re
move this interference that caused thi
constipation that caused the conges
tion that caused the Inflammation that
is the appendicitis. And there you
are. Sounds reasonable, don't It?

The Sunday Oregonlan has this to
say on a matter of vital Interest to La
Grande:
It Is surmised that the Wallowa ex
tension will eventually be pushed east
and north to a connection with the
Northwest railroad, the line now un
der construction from Huntington
along the Snake river to Lewlston.
This also Is a Harrlman roud, which
is taking advantage of the water grade
along the Snake river canyon to reach
Lewlston and will make a route of easy
grades for freight operation for over
land traffic. .
The new Wallowa extension Is a
water-grade route and with the con
nection yet to be built to the Snake
river line, an alternate route from
Huntington to La Orande will be of
fered that will have all the advantages
of a water grade, with the minimum
of curvature and grades. This will
save the haul over the mountains that
Is now necessary on heavy ' freight
trains and will undoubtedly be taken
advantage of for the operation of
everything except passenger trains.
Water-grade routes In a mountain
ous country are prime essentials for
railroads that handle heavy freight
trains and all such avenues for traffic
