GOT THE DOG; !
Much Wanted Canine Arrives and Re
ceives Hearty Welcome.
: Messrs. J. J. Carr and Al Andrews,
after much letter-writing and consid
erable telegraphing, have' finally se
cured a bird dog. Every state In the
Union was carefully searched for Just
the proper specimen, and only a few
days ago did they receive the Joyful
news that a well . known detectiv
aSwin. ii Kearney, Neb., had been
able to locate one, which, in their
estimation, .would fill the bill, and
find birds. A. message with a special
delivery stamp attached was at once
dispatched to the chief to send the
dog at once by private express. ' In
structions were followed and the long
sought bird-finder arrived .yesterday.
As soon as she we should mention
here that the name of this doggie is
Birdie arrlvod and after being fed
she was given a work-out in tha rear
of the undertaking parlors where sev
eral of the Model restaurant spring
chickens are accustomed to exercise
before execution, and it was found
that she could set a hen or flush a
pullet In the most approved fashion.
Therefore there are two broad smiles
adorning two well:pleased sportsmen
n La Grande today. Birdie will take
the hunters out in a few days and
give them some well-deserved pointers.
According to the transcript of the
family tree, which arrived this morn
ing from the former owners of Birdie,
ahe belongs to the pointer variety.
The reason the family record did not
arrive with her, was because of Its
length and weight. The shippers,
wishing to relieve Messrs. Carr and
Andrews of all unnecessary expense',
ook the precaution to ship the record
by freight
