the best attended conventions held tor
a number of years. The great vic

following about a man who at one
time lived in La Grande, but ' later
moved No Pendleton, when he was
promoted to passenger service from
a freight run: .

those employed on the mountain di
vision of thnt road; It Is said the pop
ular old conductor was a great Jolte

ington he had a freh news butcher
on his train who had never had ex
perience lii the business. It happened
that In those days soda pop was a
profitable commodity with much de
mand on the trains. The news mer
