Baptist Rallying. ,
The annual roll call and rally serv
ices of the First Baptist church will
be held beginning Friday evening at
8 o'clock, when Rev. Alexander Black
burn, t). D., of Baker City, will de
liver his noted "address on "Life's
Overflow." At IX o'clock Saturday,
Rev. L. K. Robinson will preach. Sat
urday noon a' basket dinner will be
served and social hour enjoyed at the,
church. At 2 p. m. roll call and re
puonse. At 8 p. m.. Dr. Blackburn
will preach on the Twentieth Century
church and .the ordination of deacons
will follow, when C. G.' Greene and E.
Damon will be ordained deacons. On
Sunday at 9:45 Sunday school, regu
lar lessons will be. followed by an ad
dress by Mrs. Blackburn; 11 o'clock
Dr. Blackburn will speak on the Sun
day school as an evangelizing force.
At 6:80, young people's rally, led by
Miss Lydla M. Hug. At 8 o'clock, Dr,
Blackburn's theme will be "Opportu
nity Spells Responsibility." I .
Debs at Berkeley.
Berkeley. Cal., Sept. 10. It Is an
nounced today that Eugene V. Debs,
the socialist candidate for president,
will speak in the Greek theater Satur
day instead of at the skating rink.
Permission was granted by President
Wheeler of the University of Califor
nia, on condition that no collection be
taken. Debs will arrive tomorrow
night In his "Red special."
Man and Wife Suicide.
San Francisco, Sept 10. Driven to
despair by poverty and sickness, Gla
coml Bruslo, aged SJ), and wife, Maria,
aged 60, decided to die together.
They retired last night after closing
the cracks about the doors and win
dows of their bedroom, and turned on
:he gass. They were found this morn
ing In each others'"arms, dead. They
have been married 30 years.

M. P. Maus, head of the department

the maneuvers of the California and
Arizona troops begin. Automobiles
will also be tested In the maneuvers.
Railroad President Dead.
Philadelphia, Pa., Sept. 10. Charles
Lord, president .' of the Ooldfleld
Tonopah Railroad , company, died
here today. He was former vice-president
of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad.
