This fruit heretofore has either been
hauled to Walla Walla or Freewater
. The Walla Walla Valley , Traction
company has Just completed a new
spur at Freewater, which will also be
used for the shipment of prunes by
nearly all the shipping houses. y

Mrs.W. T. Grlder, who lives near La
Grande, escaped serious Injury almost
miraculously this morning on Adams
avenue near Its Junction with Depot
street. As It was, she 1 suffering
considerably with a deep gash over
the left eye, and a cut on the ear, re
sulting from a fall trom her rig to
the sidewalk, in which she struck her
head on the curbing. Two rigs atid
an automobile played Important parts
In the accident, which was enacted In
the briefest ImaRlnable time. The L.
C. Smith auto was picking Its way
through the group of teams standing
In front of tbe N. K. West store and
the Farmers & Traders National bank.
The first team to take fright belonged
to Mr. Cross of SummervUle. It shied
violently, striking the Grlder rig. Mrs.
Grlder was in the vehicle nt the time
conversing with a gentleman standing
on the ground. When the crash came
the gentleman attempted to Btop the
horses and save Mrs. . Grlder from a
fall. He partially succeeded In both.
Peculiarly enough, Mrs. Grlder struck
the curbing. Inflicting only what Is
really slight Injuries.
She was taken to Dr. Molitor's of
fice, where she soon recovered from
the nervous shock and secured allevia
tion from the pains. The Cross rig
was dantaged some.

In pursuance of the plan adopted
at the inltral meeting of the Taft
Sherman club last Friday night, Pres
iiient F. S. Ivanhoe has appointed a
committee of six to hustle member
ship. The committee will be called to
a meeting of the club tomorrow night
at the old Elks' hall. .
The personnel of the club Is such
that It takes In a Wfclo territory, and
as each member on It Is a huBtllng In
dividual, the prospects of swelling the
roll of membership In the Taft-Sher
man club In this city, are bright.
While this Committee has been ap
pointed for the purpose of soliciting
membership, the club does not restrict
'this work to members of the commit
tee. There are numerous member
ship rolls "about the city. In fact, eoch
of the special committee will have
one and a friends of the cause can
always find a place wher.e his convert
can register.

ever made from here. There has been
over 60 ears shipped out In the lost

The Earl Fruit company of Chicago
has purchased 50 carloads of prunes
alone from the fruitgrowers' union,
and these nre now being packed and

That Methodism In Pendleton Is in
step with the tendencies of the time
toward union of churthts rather than
separation. Is established by the re
port which the Rev. J. D. Iewellen,
pastor of the. M. E. church .south, of
this city, will submit to the confer
ence which meets In Milton next week,
says a Pendleton paper. At that con
ference, of which he Is presiding el
der, the Rev. Mr. Iewellen will have
a report submitted to the effect that
the South Methodist people allow the
work here to be taken over by the
stronger Methodist church and dis
continue here as a separate church.

the conference of the Methodist church
