of tho games wherein Ash Houston
performed as shonstop ror Oakland
In the Pacific Coast league against the

his ernnr column for Wednesday
shows three errors, It was. Ash's hit
that scored the first two runs. Hous

of the players which played under La

t!u Lambeth conference, whb'h Is one
of tlfe nnwt Important conferences In
our church. It Iih!u'1.-s the MtlendMiV"
of all the bishops of the clir.rih ol
England, and there wore 243 bishops
present. Of that number there were
60 bishops from America.
"The Archbishop of Canterbury pre
sided at theconferences, and I have
an idea that his time was well occu
pied. He attempted to serve the en
tire number of bishops who were at
tending, and I think he had his hands
full.
BlshopScaddlnr denied that any of
the discussions assumed the form of a
debate, and that the most Important
subjects discussed were of purely
church Interests. Bishop Scaddlng
announced that three youns clergy
men had been engaged to assist him
In Oregon. He did not state where
they would be located, but left the
Inference that at least one of them
would be Installed Ip Portland and the
other at other points In the state.
Bishop Scaddlng was In London
during the Olympic games at the me
tropolis. He saw the Americans win
the big events and his Americanism
raused him to cheer the American
youths with the other Americans whr
were at the stadium.
"I never saw a (porting event that
aroused so much Interest," he said.
"But I never want to see another M ir
athon race. It Is too much for me,
and I am sure the finish of the recent
race was too much for the average
man."
