The Summei'vllie Sawmill company
closed a successful run last Saturday
and the 1i men employed by the com
pany have been let go until next spring
when the mill will again resume Its
run. During the past season, since
last spring, the mill has put out about
4,000,000 feet of lumber.
From now on, the company officials
will devote their time to shipments,
which have now assumed an average
of more than one car a day, destined
principally to Idaho, Montana ' and
Wisconsin. With this year's run, the
Imbler yards have a supply on hand
of 8,000,000 feet. This will be shipped
out as markets are found, and retail
business will also help reduce the

Found PendMon In Dark now.
There will be no electric lights for
Pendleton Monday evening, but If the
estimates of the electric company offi
cials prove correct, the power will be
on again about noon Tuesday.
During the fore part of last night
the reservoir above the N. ,W. O. Co.'s
power plant near Milton, was flooded
as a result of a heavy storm and the
overflowing water Interfered with the
operation of the plant. '
Particulars of the damage to the
plant are meager, but according to the
advices received at the local electrical
office from the power plant superin
tendent, the reservoir was broken to
some extent This necessitates a
shutting down of the plant and It will
require another day to get the plant
back In working order.
The lights went out In Pendleton
I shortly before 12 o'clock last night.
I and there has been no current today.

BISHOP'S ADDRESS INTERESTING
Noted Divine RiimIiih Clcar-Ciu and
Highly Iiitcraiiliur Addrt-wi.
It was the pleanure of mnnv to hear
the address of Bishop Hughes, the
educator,' divine and lecturer, who
through court i-Hy to the local M. E.
church, deferred his travels westward
long enough to adtfrcus an audience In
the city last evening. The divine's
simplicity is his master card. With
simple lliuntrntlons he drives home a
great truth, and during the Viur tnat
he spoke, attention was rapt. His
logic wss so clear and so vlx-lilly pro
pounded that a mere child could fol
low the arguments. It was Indeed a
treat to hear him.
Afu-r Men for Konhwrwtc-rn.
George C. Thompson, superintend
ent of construction on the new North
western railroad that Is building up
Snake river. Is In the city todny to hire
men for construction work and on
other bunlness, says the Baker City
Herald.
He stated that work on the big tun
nel was about one-third finished.
There has been a delay because of low
water In Snake river Impeding their
plans In rafting timbers to different
points on the new line where needed.
This has compelled them to float tim
bers loosely down the stream and
has caused a great Inconvenience.
One hundred and twenty-five men
are at work now on the railroad build
ing. Double shifts are run and no
time Is being lost Everything la llve
ly along the Une, and there Is appar
ently no possibility of a cessation of
activity.
At the Oxbow power, project pre
liminary work Is going on. Cabins are
being erected, ramps organized and
about 40 men are now employed there.
