Walla Walla. Aug. 18. Another
clue as to the Whereabouts of Cecil
Brlttan, who has been missing for
more than two years, hns fulled, and
the weary parents of the boy, who
have grasped at every straw in the
endaevor to recover the son, returned
last night at 10 o'clock from the
mountains near Tollgate, where they
had been In company with Breen and
Deputy Sheriff ButleV of Spokane, for
the past two days. ;
Breen, who has served two terms In
the penitentiary for various offenses,
was to have returned the boy to his
parents yesterday afternoon. In ac.
cordance with a pardon, which would
have Insured him his liberation on a
third conviction, but Instead of mak
ing good his word In turning Cecil
over to his anxious parents, whose
heart-strings have been torn by the
child's appearance. Breen, after tell

hills to meft the people who had the
lad, walked calmly away through the
timber ana (ailed to return within the
specified time, and failed to show up
within the hours the anxious party
waited for him near Tollgate.
Breen, according to the story told
by Brlttan last night, started out to
get the boy at 8 o'clock, and was to
have returned within a a-lven time.
But after having waited for several
hours for the return of the ex-convlot,
Deputy Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Brlt

Walla Walla that Breen hnd escaped,
started for the city, and arrived here
at 10 o'clock.
Hiding His Time,
That Breen was nv-n ly using the
parents of the ml tr.fr hul as a cots

so that he and his horse thlevlnz

The horse that Breen reported last
week had been shot from under him
while he was on a similar quest Is be
lieved to be cached away in the fast
ness of the mountains near Lewlston.
and that Breen will be fully protected
and shielded while making his way
across the mountains from Tollgate
to the Idaho line, Is also believed to
be a certainty.
