Without Manual Training Train tbe
Mind and Hand Simultaneously.
The Baker City public schools have
grasped the Importance of manual
training in connection with the regu
lar school curriculum. The directors
have seen where the best education la
that received by training the mind and
hand simultaneously. In speaking of
the highly compllmentable step taken
hv that ollv. the Raker Herald says:
The first city In Oregon outside of
Portland, to InHtall a manual training
department In the public schools, Is
Baker City. The board bf education
of this city has contracted with Prof.
J. N. McNeai of Menominee, Wis., to
take up .the manual training depart
ment in the Baker schools and his ar
rival is now dally expected.
Benefits to be derived from the ad
dition to Institutions of learning h re
cannot be estimated, so great are they.
It has been Superintendent Churchill's
one wish for some time to add manu
al training to the course, and he Is
pleased to be able to put his ideas in
force along this line this year.
Tho old gymnasium will be used for
Aie training department and will be
equipped with electric power, circular
saws, planers and also all .sorts of
wood-working tools. Besides this. It
will be possible for mechanical draw
ing to be taught studor.-.s ..'.: lave an
