Though there has been a dullness
In business of various descriptions
during the summer months, there. Is
promise of Quick resumption of, the
normal. The lull in business, due pri
marily to the fact that the farmers
have been too busy with their crops to
even think of spending money except
for dire necessities, will be overshad
owed now. The cherry profits will be
let loos on the business world In a
few days. Before the money coming
in to the growers from that source s
fairly well tn circulation, the wheat
crop will be harvested and threshed.
and there will then be thousands of
dollars put In circulation again. To
these two classes of business reviver,
will be added the appi crop later tn
the fall. .. . , V;; ',- .

FINED FOll FIGHTING.
'etorson, of llilgard, Fined $20 for
' Fighting Yesterday. t
Twenty dollars for the satisfaction
of pounding one another's face into a
substance "allee samee Jelly," is the
sequel of the fistic combat at Hllgard
yesterday afternoon. '. Peterson was
arrested and brought to La Grande by
Constable Faulk late yesterday after
noon and arraigned before Justice of
the Peace Angus Stewart, where he
pleaded guilty. The words and the
deed which preceded it cost him $20,
all of which was promptly paid. Mr.
Mund's complexion Is sadly ruined.
The time which the men battled with
each other Is variously estimated be
tween one and two hours, Honors
were about even, though Mund's ap
pearance Is considerably more mar
red than the! other fellow's.
According to rumor Mund slapped
Peterson with a beer bottle, thus pre-
Ipltatlng the conflict.
Peculiar Application.
A little girl, in speaking of P.ev.
George T. Ellis, whom every one loves
and respects, said: "Mamma, what
does the "T stand for In Rev. Ellis'
name?" While the mother was pus-
sled at such a question, she makea it
rule to always be truthful with her
children, and replied: "That, my doar,
for Timothy, his middle name."
Well, mamma," came the child s
aulck answer, "It would be an right
then to call him alfalfa, wouldn't it?"
