Still Many In the City Who Have Not

Notwithstanding that the' dally pa
pers have been giving liberal Instruc
tion to patrons of the postofflce,
there are still tome who are not fa
miliar with the process of securing the
service. As stated before, It Is neces
sary for all residents to notify the
postofflce as to. street lrs and full
name before the service will be ex
tended. While It was not expected
that the service would be running
smoothly In a week's time, still such
seems to be likely, judging from the
amount of mall taken out each day by
the carriers. ; : '

the supreme fourt handed down a de
cision closing all saloons on the reser
vation, and it is said that few of the
merchants would be willing to return
to old conditions. Instead of hurting
business, the banishment of the rum
shop aeems to have had the opposite
effect, as business has increases ana

Steel and Telegraph Wire Have
Reached the Wallow Bridge.
News from "th front" Indicates
"that the constructing crew which is
laying steel Into Wallowa county, has
reached the ' Mlnam, : . Th bridge
across the Wallowa river below - the
lunctlon with the Mlnam, Is only a
temDorary structure, however, and
passenger trains cannot be hauled over
it with anv deargee of safety.
.The large crew which Is stringing
Western Union telegraph wlre Into
that county Is following along with
the steel laying, as they cannot get
ahead of the steel gang, as that would
require other means of transportation
than the new road. Work on both de
partments is progressing fully satis
factory to-the officials.
