Literature Slight Change In Plans
To Keep Up a Stoutly Advertising
C'aniulgn. ! r
The actual shape that the booster
literature of Grande Ronde valley is
to have, was decided upon last night
at a meeting of the Commercial club
board. As Is commonly known, the
Pacific Monthly of Portland, Is about
to print several thousand booklets fox
the La .Grande Commercial club. The
data has been procured, and the print
ers awaits orders from the club as to
the exact slue and the nature of the
various volumes, i . :
,111a Plan as Adopted,
The plan aa decided upon last night
calls for 10,000 22-page booklets, neat
ly gotten up and filled from cover to
cover with newsy matter. In addition
there will be printed 10,000 11-page
folders for miscellaneous distribution.
This lest class is divided Into four dis
tinct departments, each department to
have 25,000 copies. One batch of 2500
will deal exclusively with fruit, an
other with dairying and poultry.
Farming is cared for in another, and
lumbering In the fourth. The leaflets
are to be rushed to accommodate Im
mediate demands, and the more elab
orate booklets are to be out in a
mdnth.
Continue Advertising;.
' Though there has been a change in
the general plan of advertising, still
the county's resources are to be kept
In the HmellKht through consistent ad
vertising, while the club centers Its
efforts on bigger things for the pres
ent. The advertising will go on with
these thousands of descriptive mntter,
it has heretofore, but the great big
effort to bring people here will be
postponed until factories and the Irri
gation schemes are here. '
M'KEXXON BUYS LAND.
Taken Over More Than Two Tliouaiil
Acres Near Meoeliam Creek.
The Pendleton E. O. relates that one
of the largest deals In Umatilla coun
ty rnnge lands to be recorded for
some time has Jut been made In La
Grande. J. D. McKennon, the well
known grocer of LUa Grande, and
Htockman and farmer of Grande Ronde
valley, has just purchased from J. D.
Casey the lumberman and merchant
of Hllgard, 2440 acres of timber and
range land lying about 10 miles east
of Meacham and surrounded by the
Wennha forest reserve.
The deeds .huve Just been filed with
Recorder F..W. Hcndley of thl' coun
ty and the price given In. the deeds Is
tr.3S5.83, or about $2.20 per acre for
the tract, and Mr. Casey receives all
the timber on tlie land for a period of
20 years, an extraordinary provision
In Umatilla county lnnd denls.
It Is understood thut Mr. McKennon
Is buying land for cattle rung?, ami
secured It at this extremely low price
by surrendering the timber. . Mr.
('asey will log off tho lund ni cut
cord wood on It und expects to huve
all the vuluuble timber removed with
in tho period specified.
