The Western Union Telegraph com
pany has a email crew of men et work
today constructing a loop from the
Union Junction to the station of the
Oregon Central at Union, where a
Western Union office ! to he fitted
up, a manager Installed, and the city
of Union put in direct communica
tion with the rest of the world with
out the inconveniences of telephone
service,
This scheme has been In process of
maturing for several weeks, but It was
not until yeBterday that the crew was
put to work. The office of the West
ern Union will be found in the Oregon
Central depot at Union when It Is fit
ted up. Lineman Donovan expects to
have the loop completed by next Wed
nesday evening and after- that time
tha citizens of Union will enjoy the
facilities afforded by the company.

, Belllngham, Aug. 1. Two armed
pirate last night rowed up to tha fish
trap of the Alaska Packers association
south of Point Roberts, disarmed the
watchman with a revolver, bound and
gagged him, leaving htm In tha trap.
They decamped with 1000" salmon,
which they loaded on two scows.
Tha plunder, at current price, 40
cents per salmon, is worth J2000. The
marauders loft the trap open and al
lowed 15,000 additional aalmon to es
cape. Tha watchman states tha men
rowed to the trap la a dory, and on
hla noticing them, ordered him to
throw up bis hands. When he at
tempted to use his gun, the weapon
waa taken from him and ha waa then
bound. Tha watchman was held until
released this morning by the crew of
a tug.
