One of the largest delegations to this
Good Roads convention at 1-uruund
August 11, will be the eastern Oregon
delegation, headed by Judge J. C.j
Henry of tht Union county court.
Presldont John Collier is sending out
appointments to the prominent men
over the county today, and Judge
Henry, at the Invitation of Mr. Col
lier, is appointing a delegation also,'
and the Judge will be accompanied by
the entire delegation. Including the
county commissioners, Hon. J. M. Sel
der and Hon. Benjamin Brown, as
well as the county officers and road
supervisors at the personal Invitation
of the Judge. , '
Judge Henry has written the courts
of Baker, Umatilla and Wallowa coun
ties, Inviting them to join the dele
gation of this county and swell the
eastern oreguu uiww.T , '
great Tom Richardson will have to
give this portion of the state the ban
ner for attendance. Of one thing we
are certain. The men who go to this
convention with Judge Henry will ac
quit themselves nobly before any rep
resentative body in the state, as the
counties named have men who know
the good roads proposition from be
ginning to end. Many farmers and
fruitgrowers will be on the delegation
and the results to the good roads
movement will be the most beneficial
yet gained.
This good roads movement Is not
merely a local movement, but a na
tional movement, and the men taking
part In the good work will be remem
bered and blessed by future genera
tions who travel the good roads of our
stato. Every appointed delegate should
attend, the rate made by the railways
Is one and one-third fare for the
round trip. Anyon having business
In Portland that week and whose name
might bo overlooked, should not hesi
tate to call up the Commercial club
and make known that they desire to
attend and credentials will be Issued

BEST PROGRAM YET.
Sherwood Presents His Runner
traction at the Electric.
At-
In a program which Manager Sher
wood affirms Is the best he has ever
produced In this city, "The Blue and
the Gray" stands as a peer. While the
makeup of the entire program Is far
above the' average. It Is not complete
without the last number on the pro
gram. It is a thrilling war drama.
Two boys are cadets together at West
Point, but the eventual war comes
only after the northerner has fallen in
love with his southern chum's sister.
The fortunes of war take them apart.
Both are promoted, but the Yankee Is
wounded and captured and taken to
tno house of his lover. His boyhood
chum, now a lieutenant,, la carrying
dispatches' for Lee, Is captured and
taken to the house where the north
erner Is recovering from his wounds.
Kwaplng In his former chum's uni
form, tho rebel gains his liberty. The
sick man eventually recovers. Is tried
for being a traitor and la condemned
to death. Tho outcome of the 'story Is
a thriller.
