George Stoddard has returned from
California, where he has been the past
two weeks looking after the erection
of a new sawmill which is In the
course of construction. Mr. Stoddard
says that everything Is very dry-in
California this season, and that he did
not tee any evidence of rain until he
reached this valley, and was glad to
see things looking so nice and green.

"The Wandering Hobo" will be, at
the Pastime tonight and all the rest
of the week. His adventures and
troubles are at once funny and pa
thetic. He will divide his "mulligan"

The Merry Widow party ai the F.
E. Holm residence last evening was
largely attended and declared a com
plete success. The gentlemen guests
were, forced to. manufacture , Merry
Widow hats and In other ways dis
play their tastes along lines "Merry
Widow." The whole affair was a
huge success. '

Clark was taken back to Enterprise
this morning. The Wallowa county
sheriff arrived here last night from
Walla Walla, where; he got his hands
on Clark with requisition papers, and
turned him over to local authorities
for the night. This morning Clark
and the sheriff continued their journey.
