In pursuance of an ordlnunce passed

the expense of the proierty owners.
These bids will be opened at the re

Mill Shut IXn. '
With over thirty million feet of
manufactured lumber In tho yards of
the different sawmills In linker City,
and with the market dull and elugglxh
due to a pending presidential cam
paign and other causes, it Is likely
that tho whirl of the snwmHl will not
be heard regularly throughout each
day during the summer months. . '
1 Last Saturday night the. large mill
at Austin, owned by the Orogon Lum
ber company, was cloned temporarily.
It Is not known how long this proper
ty' will be idle, but Indications for a
-steady run arc not good. The South
Baker plant will loso, the latter part
of this week. It was Intended to shut
It down on tho 15th, but there Is
doubt expresses whether the work on
hand will be finished by that time.
That it will closo same tlmo this week
is practically certain.
Shock Icy & McMurrcn have not an
nounced they will shut down, but they
have a quantity of lumber on hand
and unless business experiences a
strong stimulant the belief exists that
they, too, will lay off for a while.
The same is true of Stoddard Eros.
