Three blocks of the city are to be
brilliantly Illuminated, during the na
tional holiday and following night.
Already the early steps In the decor
ation of th streets are In progress,
and definite plans for placing the my
riads of incandescent lights that will
add luster to the evening's attrac
tions, have been made. While the
decorations proper will begin tomor
row, the stringing of electric light
wires and attaching of light globes
will not be completed until Friday
night.
At the Intersections of Depot and
Adams, Elm and Adams and Fir and
Adams will be rectangular aireauioi
of electric lights, running about the
square formed by the intersections.
Diagonally from corner to corner will
be strung streamers of colored lights.
That In Itself will form brilliant lllu.

commenced preparatory work for the
street decorations yesterday. Flags
and pennants will be strung across
the streets In profusion and it Is the
plan to wrap the light and telephone
poles In bunting. ' From now on the
decorating committee will be busy.

LANDS IN NATIONAL FOREST.
Notice is hereby , given that the
lands described below, embracing 110
acres, within the Imnaha National
forest, Oregon, will be subject to set
tlement and entry under the provisions
of the homestead laws of the United
States and the act of June 11, 1908
(34 Stat,, 233). at the United States
land office at La Grande, Oregon, on
August 8, 1908. Any settler who has
actually and In good faith claiming
any of said lands for agricultural pur
poses prior to January 1N 1900, and
has not abandoned same, has a pref
erence right to make a homestead en
