where they went to look after the tim
ber claims of Coolldge, Rogers and
nocKenrjerry. nut that Is
point of the story.
Tuesday, while pausing over the
mountain between Fly creek and
Sheep creek, the party heard the
plaintive bjeatlngs of a deserted lamb,
After gome search the little thing was
found lying helpless In a hole. Its
mother probably destroyed by coyotes.
Adna Rogers ham'long wanted to own
oiun sneey, nun tus cnance was not
to be neglected. With the help of
Mr. Coolldge the lamb was rescued
and during the day fed upon con
densed tnllk, ttro parts water and
one of milk, sugar added In suitable
quantities. It Is not of record that
the lamb was consulted as to
amount of sugar, but Mr. Rogers Is
familiar with. the formula. At bed
time the lamb was taken Into the bed
with Its rescuer and so kept from
perishing with cold. Becoming hungry
during the night as all young crea
tures are apt to do, the Iamb de
manded food In so strenuous a man
ner that Rogers was constrained to
arise and prepare Its bottle. Whether
Mr, Coolldge also arose we do not
know, but that the process of admin
istering fopd to the lamb required the
combined servlc.es of both Its rescu
ers, we are assured. Lamb, when ap
proached with the bottle, would back
away as far as poxslble, until some
obstruction In the rear stopped It.
Then with Mr. Coolldfe holding the
animal, head to the wind, so to speak,
Rogers would force It to drink. The
tender cure given the llttlo thing kept
It alive, unci it now graces the pasture
surrounding Mr. Rogers' home on Sec
ond street.
