Rev. C. E. Deal left , for Payette
this morning, where be "will be In at
tendance at the district convention of
the Epworth league for a few days.
Mrs. Deal and the children went as
far as Union, where they will be the
guests of Mr. Deal's brother until af
ter Sunday. Rev. Deal will return
Mrs. Albert Hunter, who Is in witn
typhoid. Is some better today than,
yesterday and It Is hoped that her re
covery will now be rapid. Her
mother, Mrs. E. W. Barnes, and her
sister. Miss Affle Barnes of North
Ppwder, are . still with her. , Dr.
Barnes came down last evening, and
after spending the night at Island City
returned to North Powder this morn

Jay C. Waldron, storekeeper for the
George Palmer Lumber company's
camp at the end of the Palmer spur,
came In to La Grande last evening
with C. L. Gary, who suffered a se
vere Injury. He was skidding logs at
the camp at the, time, and a log rolled
against his ankle, bruising It severe
ly. ;He was taken to the Grande
Ronde hospital, where he Is resting as
well as could be expected today.

dently will not always be the case.
County Judge-elect Olmstead and
Commissioner Sam Lltch are In tjie
city today looking over our court
house building, with a view of secur
ing pointers. ,The building used as a
court house In La Grande Is consider
ed one of the most modern, up-to-date
building In the state and cost
many thousands of dollars less than
many,- no more pretentlpus buildings.
Both gentlemen were surprised after
looking over our structure to note
the thorough workmanship and the
low price, including furniture and all

B. A. Foye, son-ln-lnw of Dunham
Wright of Medical Springs, died at
the Wright home yesterday morning
of con-iumptlon. Mr. Foye was
years of age. He was married to
Grace Wright Juno 14, 1904. The
wife and a little son 3 years old, are
left to miss the love of husband "and
father. The deceased was a member
of the Sioux City, Iowa, lodite of Flks.

Sherwood's Electric theater has been
corrected today by the arrival of the
delayed film from the film house.
Though presenting an abbreviated
program laHt evening, the house en
joyed a full attendance. The delayed
films will be seen tonlght. and their

Issue. This makes a strong attructlon
for that amusement resort.

The Pastime management Is to be
congratulated upon the program they
are presenting this week, beginning
last night. There are some extremely
good films above the average. They
are colored. The songs by Sherwood
Williams are worthy of especial men
tion. They are the best ones he has
had an opportunity to sing for patrons
