Reports from over tho valley s.'.y
that the mlnH this mornins were em-
eral, and for the mont part needed.
It came at a timely moment, for a
week later it would have found ittrge
quantities of hay down. Ths only
man thus far reported who will suf
fer sllirutly by the downpour, is John
McAllister, who has about 40 tons of
alfalfa hay In swath, He is one of
the early harvesters, however, and
thenc are but few who will sustain any
loss whatever. There are hundreds on
tho other hand, who will profft by
the shower.
LOCAL BERRIES IN.
Strawberry Crop of (Juod Quality and
Plentiful, Say tho Growers.
Local berries are In tho market now
at all the stores, and though many are
paying-a allg-htly higher price for 'the
Hood Rivers, they are much In de
mand, and not enough are being
brought in to supply the wants of the
Housewives. Berries for canning are
not yet being bought to any extent.
The local berrjfs brought in yestenday
are sweeter than any others In . the
market, and for that reason many pre
fer them to can.
