night from Arizona, where she has
been spending the winter. 8he was
accompanied as far as Pendleton by

FILED HERE
A case was filed In the circuit court
which has considerable distinction in
that It is the first case In Oregon to
come under the new interstate com
merce law passed by congress. The
suit Involves the question of rates from
Portland, Col., to Oils city, and the
principals In it are the O. R. & N., by
Claude Johns, attorney tor the com
pany, and O. F, Coolldge. The litiga
tion Is to recover the difference be
tween 35 and 80 cents per 100 on a
shipment of cement to this place. Mr.
Coolldge paid his freight bill at the
rats of 3S cents per hundred and the
new laws of the commerce depart
ment establishes a rate of (0 cents.

Brunswick, Ga., June 11. An ad
dress of welcome by Congressman W.
G. Brantley ' opened the 17th annual
meeting of the Georgia Bankers' asso
ciation here today. A banquet at the
Hotel Oglethorpe will be tendered the
visiting financiers this evening. The
feature of the session will be an ad
dress tomorrow by Charles H. Treat,
treasurer of the United States, oa "The
Financial Outlook."

Sioux City. Iowa, June II, All the
lending financial Institutions of the
stnte have representation at the an
nual convention of Hie Iowa Bankers'
association, opened today. The session
will be concluded tomorrow and will
be addressed by banking authorities
of this and other states.

today for Paris. "I never expect to
visit Germany again," he said. "Un

Prairie City, Grant county, are In the
city today on land office matters. Mr.
Cantwell Is a business man in his
home town and remarks that though
his county went dry by It votes, he
foresees a splendid run "of business
this summer. A large percentage of
the business men of that city are much
elated over the turn of the election
on the liquor question.
