Harold J. Warner of Pendleton, the
well known high school student, was
a passenger on Saturday night's eart
bound, en route to his former home at
Fort Wayne, Ind., where he will spend
the summer. He expects to attend
the republican national convention in
Chicago this week. '
Hamilton Wilson is very III at the
Grande Ronde hospital with appendi
citis. He was brought In from the
valley yesterday afternoon and the
attending physlclsns decided that In
his condition an operation would be
extremely dangerous, and eevry effort
is being made to bring him through
without It.

Andrus Nelson, of The Observer
force, left last Wednesday evening for
Portlnnd, where he was to attend the
Rose show. Testerday morning he
telephoned from Salem, saying he
could not very well ' gi-t away, and
asked for another day's vacation. He
was Informed that the case was not In
the jurisdiction of thls'offlce and wae
referred to the proper authorities
presumably the pardon board. "Nel
ly" will be home tomorrow evening.
Mrs. J. W. paly and daughter, Miss
Laura of Baker City, were among
those who passed through La Grande
yesterday morning after spending the
week at Portland. Mrs. . Paly la a
