Will Win Out if the Birds and Spltlcr
Are Right.
It Is claimed that the celebrated
trained and talking parrots, "Abe Mar
tin," so called to honor Ken Hubbard,
the Indiana cartoonist, and "Ella W."
named cfter Ella Wheeler Wilcox of
literary fame, possess the power of
prophecy to a remarkable degree.
These autocratic birds abide with the
SellR-Floto circus, and are the only
breeding parrots" in, captivity. The
other day to their nest In the winter
menagerie of the show at Venice,
"Abe" carried and deposited a small
quantity of tea. . "Ella" In turn
brought 12 Inches of a tape line (a ft.).
The seefs with the circus Immediately
put to the two together and an
nounced that "Taff would be the
next president.
The Sells-Floto shows have a spider
circus In the menagerie spiders that
do acrobatic stunts, cake walk, and
feature themselves In various ways.
One big fellow, called "Jeff," after
Jeffries, the prizefighter, a few days
ago spun a web and In It caught and
placed side by side a honey bee and
a grain of rye. The web was In the
shape of the letter "N." The circus
Mra thereunnn made out from this
that Bryan will be nominated by his
party for president.
Last year a snake with the Bella
Floto circus shedded and with the
cast-off skin made letters that form
the nam of "Bryan," and the same
snake .with its second shedding' drew
a running hone and two small money
banks, meaning, according to the
seers, a prediction (or Fairbanks.
The Bells-Floto circus with Abe and
Ella, and Jeff and their prophesies
will be at L Grande Friday, May .

Rousing Meeting at Echo Yesterday
The republican candidates for coun
ty offices, numbering 10 strong, left
Pendleton -yesterday to begin the
campaign tour of the county. Meet
ings were addressed at Umatilla, Her
mlston and Echo yesterday, at each
place the enthusiasm being great. In
spite of the threatening weather, large
crowds attended the speakers wher
ever they made their appearance. The
biggest meeting was held at Echo last
night, where the hall was crowded
with applauding auditors. Speeches
were made by several of the candi
dates, and all the people In the but
rounding country took advantage of
the occasion to hear their candidates,
Those In the party are C. A. Barrett,
L. I Mann, Frank k. Welles, R. T.
Brown, Horace Walker, O. W. Brad
ley, Fred Hendley and Ralph Folsom
Pendleton Tribune.
. Sherwood's Electric.
There Is a touch of pathos, of trag
edy and heaps of funs In the set of
films now being shown at the Sher
wood Electric. The first performance
last evening was well attended, and
the second . was attended by a full
house. The pictures are good and the
scenes In the Illustrated songs are es
pecially excellent.
