RESUME OF CONDITIONS,
The Fate if tho Omnibus 1SIU Is Still n
Doubt and Pendleton May Not Rc
vlve It- IliilUIInx Tliln Year.
The fate of the omnibus federal
building bill In which an appropriation
of $70,000 for a federal building in
this city Is Included, is still uncertain
and It looks now ns though It might
not become a law nt this session, al
though Its friends are doing every
thing In their power to secure Its pns-
sage through the senate.
The East Oregnnlnn received th.
following dispatch from the Washing

i his afternoon 'regarding the fate of
the bill:
"The omnibus federal building bll'
has been sent to the secretary of the
treasury for his opinion on Its merits
Every effort Is being made to pass tin
Mil If within humnn power, nt thb
s'ss,in, hut both It nnd the currency
bill appear to be In danger of not
passing nt this session."
However, the Associated Prcs sen'
out a different story rewarding nt
least a portion of the omnibus bill, a
special to the Walla AVnlla Union of
this morning reading ns follows:
The senate today passed the omni
bus public building bill. Inserting noi
only the numerous amendments su;;.

a few proposed by Individual senators
As passed, the bill carries n t.ual of

The larger appropriations for new
buildings added by the senate includ
ed : Riverside, Cal., 5125.O00; Everett
nnd AValln Walla, Wash, JHO.uoO.
The limit of cost fixed for the sub
treasury building In 8an Francisco uns
Increased from $375,000 to $6:,5.noo.
The senate amendment providing
for a new office building for the de
partment of state and Justice to b
used Jointly was retained, the ultlmat.
cost of which Is limited to $2,500,00(
ami It Is hinted that If this Item is no:
retained the bill may be allowed to j

Seven applicants will report to Sliss
Klealand, assistant secretary of the
civil service commission, to take the
examinations to fill vacancies In the
city carrier list tomorrow morning. At
least seven have taken out appllca
tlon blanks, and It Is believed that a
large majority of them will' apply.
The recent examination did not give
the department sufficient carriers and
the second examination was called for.
The examination will ha conducted
by Miss Rlesland, the applicants hav
ing instructions to report at 9 o'clock
In the morning. From this list of ap
plicants It Is believed that a sufficient
