Honolulu, t 'ay 22. Society is di
vided BKln.t Itself today on the iueu
tlon of whether Mr. Jack Tar of the
Atlantic fleet is a suitable dancing
partner for ladies of the upper crust
of Honolulu. The trouble has grown
out of plans for a big ball for all sail
ors of the flet; to which 9oclety lend
ers here expected to come to welcome
the sailors with open arms.
But, then a rift in social circels ap
peared: "Ladles of Honolulu -will never at
tend a ball at which they are expected
to dance with sailors," said G. W.
8mlth, social light of the islands.
This caused a storm to break.'-Now
society Is divided Into two camps.
Among those who have announced
that they will be at the ball are Mrs.
George R. Carter, wife of the ex
governor. "I shall certainly attend
the ball," she said today. "The
American sailor Is gqod enough for
any society In the world."

To Republican Voters
B "X OaimiIIiaas ta f A. T
AN OVERWHELMING majority of Oregon voters by registration
have formally declared that they believe in the principles of the re
publican party. Let them now show that they are honest by voting in
accordance with their declarations. The Oregon election comes before
the republican national convention. Let every
REPUBLICAN VOTER IN SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
jphold the honor of the republican party in Oregon and strengthen In
fluence of Oregon's delegation in the national convention by voting
for H. M. Cake for United States Senator, and W. R. Ellis for Repre
sentative In congress. If either of these republican nominees fall of
election the primary election system will be discredited and a return
of boss rule will be invited. The good name of Oregon's voters will be
smirched and Oregon's delegation to the national convention will bo
placed in a humiliating position. For the effect it will have on the
November election it is Imperative that the republican nominees in
the June election shall be elected by an overwhelming majority. As
a believer In the principles of the republican party it is your duty to
be at the polls June 1st, and vote for Cake and Ellis.
