BUB-DIVISIONS REFERRED TO CONSISTING OF SILICIFIED AND
CLAY SHALES. SANDSTONE, CLOSE, AND COARSE GRAINED.
THE UNDERLYING FORMATIONS ARE CLAY, BANDST.ONE AND
CALCAREOUS CONCRETIONS, WHITE CALCAREOUS SHELLS, FOSSIL
IFEROUS CONCRETIONS. CARBONIFEROUS LIME AND LIME SHALE.
THE FORMATION GENERALLY IS SUCH AS TO GIVE THE LANDS IN
QUESTION A HIGH CHARACTER AS LANDS PECULIAR TO OIL FOR
MATIONS ON THE PACIFIC COAST.
THE SANDSTONE STRATA IS IMPREGNATED AND STAINED
WITH DEPOSITS WHICH WOULD RESULT FROM SUCH SOURCE. t

during the picnic at Cove. That would
Insure a fast exhibition, as Cove Is
speedy, for an amateur aggregation,
and the Eutte bunch Is credited with
being "some" fast. The matter has

After lying helpless beside the rail-

ning and is now at the county hospi
tal in a rather serious condition, says
the Pendleton East Oregonlan. He Is
suffering great pain, but it ia Impos
sible to determine how badly injured
he la, though It Is known that several
ribs are broken. It seems he was
beating hla way from Portland
through to the east ana when near
Nolln station he fell from the top of
the passenger coach on which he was
stealing a ride. This was on train No.
6 which passed Nolln about 1 a. m
Friday night. He was not found un
til Saturday evening. He Is 45 years
of age.
