Elr Aslw for Co
operation From Court and Citizens.
t'nlon county's resources are to be
extolled In -picture, exhibits and liter
ature at the World's fair In Seattle, in
1809. County Judge Henry has re
ceived a communication from the Ore
gon commission of the Alaska-Yukon-
Pacific exposition, of which W. T.
Wright, of Union, Is a member, set
ting forth what the commission de
sires from this county, and what the
county cox'vt :tw do t- put tMs com
munity before the thousands and
thousands -of eyes at the coming fair.
The letter received by the county
court Is self-explanatory, and it Is use
less to say that the court will take
prompt action to comply with the re
quest: ' , . . , ,
Portland, Ore., May 15, 1908.
Dear Sir: The Oregon commission to
the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition
Is glad to Inform you that the Ore
gon building, now under construction
at Seattle, will be completed In due
time for the coming exposition, and
will be the largest and most complete
state building on the grounds.
We propose to make a collective
exhibit of the state's resources In this
building, and It is of the utmost Im
portance that we have a thorough and
attractive exhibit from every eouc'.y.
You can readily see that we must
have your hearty co-operation In this
motter, and that the gathering of an
exhibit must commence at once. Vo
will have to use the crops raised this
year, as the exposition opens the first
of June, 1909, too early for next year's
crop. Your grasses will soon he
ready for harvest find It is Important
that you gather them at the proper
tlmo. If they arc over-ripe they will
not do for exhibition purposes; hence
you see the necessity of acting prompt
ly. n o win visit your county some
time In Juno or July and will be glad
to assist you In the work, though It
will be necessary for you to begin col
lecting your exhibit before we see you.
The expense to your county in col
lecting such an exhibit will not be
large. Get a live man to take hoM
of the work and push it, bearing In
mind that It Is quality, not quantity,
that Is wanted. After you have gath
ered your exhibit we will transport It
to Seattle, Install and maintain it with,
out further expense to your county,
we will also place an attendant In
charge and will keep In close touch
with you during the fair, so that your
county will get all the benefit possi
ble In the way of advertising, etc.
The commission Is also having print
ed a ((-page booklet on the resources
of Oregon which will be distribute
during the exposition. Two pages of
this booklet will be devoted to each
county. We also Intend to show by
moving pictures the farms, orchards,
livestock, timber, mountains, streams,
and everything of Interest In each
county.
We must have your help and co
operation In the gathering of your ex
hibit ' If we were compelled to buy
these exhibits the state would have
to double Its present appropriation,
but with your assistance we hope to
carry out present plans without ask-'
Ing for any further appropriation.
Trusting to receive an early 'reply
saying you are with us In the work,
and thanking you In advance for giv
ing this your prompt attention, we are
Yours very truly,
