At the last meeting- of the republl- j
can county central committee the
chairman waa given authority to ap
point a "booster committee" to con
sist of from 2S to 30 members, whose
duty would be to advise and assist the
members of the county committee In
working for the election of the entire
republican ticket at the coming elec
tion. It waa with considerable pleas
ure that I made the selection of this
committee; because It was an evidence
of the desire on the part of the coun-J
ty organisation to enlist an enthusias
tic working force behind those per
sons who became the nominees of our
party.
In appointing this committee it was
not the desire to exclude others who
are interested in the success of the
party, but rather to add as much
"powder"' as possible to the efforts
and endeavor of each member of the
republican organization.
I have the honor to appoint the fol
lowing gentlemen to membership in
ini committee and sincerely trust
they will accept the duties and Join
heartily In the spirit of activity and
success which must surely crown our
efforts:
H. A. Bodmer, T. J. Scroggin, Geo,
Kreiger, c. D. Goodnough, A. T. Hill,
a. Aimnson and G. E. McCulley of
La Grande; Nerl Ackles and Ben
Brown of Island City; E. A. Wills and
H. Littleton of Allcel; ' Waldo Bach
and OV C. Coble ot imuiu . rr.
Rlnehart, J. A. Bonnette and Jdhn Mc
Rae of Summervllle; Arthur Parsons,
August Hug. Arthur Halgarth, Chas.
Chandler and J. B. Thorsen of Elgin;
Chris Stackland. M. B. Rees and Otho
Eckeraley of Cove; A. X Goodbrod,
Thomaa Brasher, Will Wright and F.
W. Davis of Union; J. M. Gilkinson
and Ed Murphy of North Powder; Ed
Heath and Mat Forstad ot Perry, and
J. W. Scott of Hilgard.
,The names of these gentlemen will
be forwarded to the state central com
mittee and will become a part of the
regular state organisation. In addition
to the members of the state and coun
ty committees.

.A Question for the County Court.
Editor La Grande Observer:
In a former letter Mr. Ben Brown
aeried me to show where the county
court had misappropriated a dollar of
the county's funds. How about Dep
uty Recorder, J. H. Lishman recelv
Ing about 18.40 per month since De
cember 1, 1907, for extra work done
in the recorder's office? Has It ever
been done before? The voters of
Unoin county think It Is Intended to
pay Mr. Lishman for his influence In
securing Mormon votes in favor of D.
fa. Proctor's nomination for recorder
and J. IS. fielder's re-election for coun
iy commissioner, out Mr. iroctor was
beaten at the primary election, and J.
M. Selder should share the same fate
at the June election unless the court
can explain the matter to the entire
satisfaction of the voters ot this coun
ty.
HENRY CHAMBERS.
