Now Amusement Entcrpirse About
Ready for Opening.
The "Pastime" Is the name of the
new electric motion picture theater
which will be ready for the public
patronage jmaay. May l. The new
amusement resort will be under the
management of Messrs. Dozier and
La Fountain, two young, business men
formerly of Pendleton. They have
spared neither pains nor expense In
making the Pastime one of the finest
picture houses In the ' state. Their
machinery is as fine as money can
procure and an expert operator from
Seattle has been secured to see that
only the very finest pictures appear
upon the screen. The alcove In which
the machinery Is located Is entirely
fireproof and could be consumed by
fire without knowledge of the audi
ence. There are two emera-enrv !
In the rear and the room la so arrang
ed as to eliminate all ' possibility of
aanger. The machine Itself Is one no-

on her remarkably successful meihod
of Introducing moral education Into
the Toledo public schools, Is a strong
advocate of equal suffrage. She
writes, "Woman's right to suffrage is
so clearly bated , upon Justice that it
Is only a question of time when It
wilt be granted her, fully and freely."
The affirmative vote on woman suf
frage In the Massachuetts legislature
this year was an Increase of more than
100 per cent over that of last year;
while the. negative vote showed a con
siderable decline.
Some persons have' hinted that the
surprisingly large vote of 271 to 92
laieiy given by the house of com
mons In favor of parliamentary' suf
frage for women Is a "pious fraud."
They Intimate that the 271 members
who voted for the measure never
meant It to pass. But It Is less than
a year since the house of commons,
with only It dissenters, passed the
bill making wome nellglble as mayors,
aldermen and councillors, which had
already passed the house of lords, and
Is now law. It seems clear that the
British parliament really holds "ad
vanced" views on the woman aueatlon
