Tho Xow Board.
1 For three years F. L. Meyers,
Mac Wood, John Collier.
For two years George Stod-
dard, Turner Oliver, F. O. Tay-

For one year William' Miller,
George Palmer, O. L. Cleaver.
Thus reads the board of managers
which will for the next year,' have

mercial club, which grew out of the
old body and which, by all Indica

more energetic organization

umfWn nf The Observer are fa
miliar with the Esperanto appearing
In these columns from time to time,
but it remained for FI'M Superinten
dent Sebbelov, of the Amalgamated
Sugar company to show his loyalty to
La Grande Inntltutions by having his
printing done at home and thereby
hangs a tale. The Observer was ap
proached with the work of printing a
i contract, to bo used by the newly ar
rived Germans. With not a single
German character In the office, nnd
the German language as foreign to
the printer as the lingo of the Chinese,
, the linotype was resorted to with the
result that the work was completed
to the entire satisfaction of Mr. Seb-
j belov. The entire Job was set with
English characters, and can be read
as plainly as though the German al
phabet was used. As far as known
this Is the first German work turned
out of an exclusively English office,
in the state of Oregon.
The Observer was equal to the

laws were adopted in the main as an
nounced In The Observer last evening.
One feature of the reorganization
which was not mentioned last evening
was the fact that the board of man
agers are empowered to secure the
services of a competent manager who
wilt, with the board of managers, have
full use of the boost fund. As the
by-laws specify that the president, a
treasurer and secretary shall be se
lected from among the board of man
agers. It will be seen that these off!
cers are still to be selected. This will
be done early next week. .
Bright prospects face La Grande
commercially. With funds that will
amount to $000 In a few days, the
board can hire a competent manager
who will devote his entire time to
bringing payrolls and more home
seekers to La Grande. To do this,
however, they must spend $2000 or
more of their fund for a manager's
salary. The best is none too good.
This action will no doubt be taken as
soon as the board Is organized.
The meeting last evening was en
thuslastle, and the election of the
board progressed with unity and
smoothness. The result! of the bal
loting Is stated above.
