but the "Narrow- Escape" is one wmcii
will prove a favorite; and the "Mod
ern Sampson" will cause young and
old alike to elt up and take notice'.
The Illustrated song are both good,
and the picture are aa fine aa were
ever shown in La Grande. Remem
ber that the entire proceed of the
theater tomorrow will be given to the
Elks' building fund and It 1 the hope
of Manager Sherwood, as well as the
member of the lodge, that all prevl
ous record for attendance will be
shattered tomorrow evening.
NOMINATE FRIDAY NIGHT.
La Grande Fire Company Will Select
Candidates for Fire Chief,
On next Friday evening at 7:30
o'clock the member of the La Grande
fire department will meet to nominate
candidates for fire chief. The elec
tlon of these candidate will take place
at a later date. Chief Jone wants
every member of the organization to
be on hand and have a vote in the
nomination. ,

New York, April 23. Mrs. Corneli
us Vanderbllt sailed for Europe today
in order to rneet Alfred Vanderbllt and
lay before him a plan for compromise
between Alfred and hi wife, who has
sued him for a divorce. Mrs. Corne
Uus Vanderbllt has had several In
terviews with her daughter-in-law re
ccntly, and It Is thought she ha ar
ranged a basis upon which the hue
band and wife can meet again.
