will be given by the Lyle Teusday Mu
sicals tomorrow evening at the audi
torium In the new Elks" building.
Prominent society people will be cos
tumed and posed for the famous Gib
son pictures. Excellent music has
been prepared and no pains re being
spared to make this a big event. The
proceeds of the evening are to go to
wards degraylng the expenses of the
State Federation of Clubs, which Is to
meet here In October. This is a big
honor for La Grande. Come and as
sist a good cause as well as enjoy a

RECORD OP 1907 CROP.
Spring Rains a Groat Blessing to Or
- cliards and Fields of Oregon.
Portland, Ore., April 20. (Special
correspondence.) The splendid rain
all over Oregon caused a light vote to
be cast at the primaries, but it put
thousands of dollars into the pock
eta of the producer In fact, tt was
worth millions to the people of the
state.
The grain crop of the Pacific north
west has exceeded every estimate made
by commercial organizations, railroads,
newspapers and exporters. The 1907
crop of Oregon, Washington and Ida
ho was:
Wheat 58,000,000 bushels
Barley 10,000,000 bushels
Oats 12,000,000 bushels
Farmers received $50,000,000 for
this crop. More than 50 per cent of
the total marketed was shipped from
Portland. -
A great campaign of publicity and
correspondence Is to be carried on by
the Yamhill County Development
league, with Mr. J. C. Veatch, an ac
complished newspaper man, as secre
tary, with central office at McMInn
vllle. " The Fort Klamath chamber of
commerce Is the latest addition to the

A series of meetings under the aus
pices of the commercial bodies at The
Dalles, Pendleton, La Grande, Elgin,
Union, Cove, Baker City and Sumpter
will be held this week for the discus
sion of advertising and development
work In Its various phases.
Thousands of copies of the capital

Roach Stratum of" Baltimore, will be
circulated throughout the United
States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
This $5000 prize contest of the Port
land commercial club Is generally con
ceded to be one of the most success
ful advertising projects ever attempt
ed. Horse Show Waa Splendid.
In the exhibit and crowd.the Enter
prise horse show equalled and In the
Judgment of many, surpassed that of
a year ago, which Is saying a good
deal as all who saw the exhibition of
last April will acknowledge, says the
News-Record.
The weather waa perfect Saturday,
and the horsls showed to grand ad
vantage. The town was filled with
visitors who enjoyed the music by the
Enterprise concert band and the splen
did equine show in the public square.
