Missouri and Kansas points, and get
ting a good price for them.
J. 8. Jansen, the well known livery
man of Lewlston. ' Idaho, arrived In
the city laHt week with a party of five
persons whom he had driven over
from his town, a distance of 120
miles. . Mr. Jansen and the party put
up at the Sommer house,
J. M. Ashworth of Athena, was In
Elgin recently looking this field over
with the Idea of building a modern,
up-to-date opera house here. He ex
pressed himself well pleased with the
situation and stated that It was almost
a certainty that he would build at an
early date.
The Elgin brass band, successor to
h Woodman band. Is rehearsing reg
ularly each week under the direction
of Prof. E. F. Hug. There are 25
members In the band, 10 ladles and
misses, and the remainder men and
boys. About 18 members attend re
hearsals regularly and take a decided
Interest In the organization. '

friends. The Morton family will
move to Walla Walla In a few day
to make their home.
Mrs. O. S. Wlgglcsworth arrived or
Monday's train from her home In Cal
ifornia to visit with her parents. Mr.

Thomas Slcgnmnd has contracted
for 10 cub bears of C. Carpy of Wal
lowa. The cirbs have not been de
livered, but Mr. Carpy has them
vendy to ship on short order. Mr.

Mrs. D. D. Wortmnn left Wednes
day evening for Wnlla Walla, when

ard Mclntyre, who was recently In
jured by the explosion of an acetylene
gas tank. The Injured man was
moved to a Walla Walla hospital

a dangerous condition.
