The Neighborhood club spent a
most profitable afternoon together
yesterday afternoon. The subject for
consideration was.t "The Old and the
New Novel." The program was In
charge of Miss Anson. , The discus
sion was opened by Mrs." E. C. Moore
In her witty and entertaining way.
Mrs. George Palmer read a most In
teresting and Instrusctlve paper' on
"The Old Novel." This was followed
by a concise paper of splendlJ
thought by Mrs. Mullory. Mrs. Os
burn read an article In which a com-1
parlson was made of the ' American
and English hero and heroine. In
Lighter Vein The Real of Fiction
was given by Mrs. A. L. Richardson
and Miss Anson, in a manner that
both Impressed and pleased their au
dience. When the announcement was
made that the pleasant rooms, our
home, would be our meeting place no
more, there was a general feeling of
regret that circumstances were such
that the Commercial club was com
pelled to dissolve. Many expressed
their appreciation of the numerous
courtesies shown us and too much
could not be said to express our grate
fulness. . Mrs. Cavana and' Mrs. Ivan
hoe were appointed to carry this ex
pression to the president of the Com
mercial club. During all the years
our pleasant room, heated, lighted
and kept, has been furnished us free
of charge. They were' always ready
to give us the use of their parlors
when we asked for them. Indeed, not
a kindness shown us has been over
looked and we certainly express our
sincere thanks for each and every
favor shown us.
Members of the club were kind In
opening their homes for the remain
ing meetings. Mrs. Osburn's kind of
fer to care for our furniture was ac
cepted. The annual business meeting
will be held In two weeks at the home
of Mrs. Rush on Park street. - At this
meeting committees will report and
officers will be elected.
Our year's study of English litera
ture will close with "An Evening With
Tennyson." . Owing to the series of
meetings no. date has .been fixed, '
