Gains In Michigan.
Little Difference for Flint Quarter of
1008 and 1907.
For the first three months of this
year the bank clearances are just
about keeping pace with the high rec
ord set last year, which was a gain
of 40 per cent over 1906. While most
cities In the country are falling far
behind last year's record in all kinds
of business, Spokane merchants report
a good Increase, and the bank clear
ances Indicate that the city is holding
its own.
The total of the clearings for the
first quarter last year was f 04,445,
111. This year the total of the first
quarter Is $84,004,341. The loss is a
tittle more than one-half of 1 per
cent.
To show how closely the clearances
this year are keeping to those of laBt,
February gave a slight gain, but It
wb so small that had there been only
28 days as there, were last year, liie'.e
would have been a slight loss. Janu
ary clearings were also slightly above
thosie of the same month In 1907, but
March showed a little decrease, which
offset the gain of the other two
months. Spokesman-Review.
