CLAY SHALES. SANDSTONE, CLOSE AND COARSE GRAINED.
THE UNDERLYING FORMATIONS ARE CLAY. SANDSTONE AND "
CALCAREOUS CONCRETIONS. WHITE CALCAREOUS SHELLS. FOSSIL- '
IFEROUS CONCRETIONS. CARBONIFEROUS LIME AND LIME SHALE.
THE FORMATION GENERALLY IS SUCH AS TO GIVE THE LANDS IN
QUESTION A HIGH CHARACTER AS LANDS PECULIAR TO OIL FOR
MATIONS ON THE PACIFIC COAST.
THE SANDSTONE STRATA 13 IMPREGNATED AND STAINED

Whereas, Union county has fur
nished a larger number of students
to the State university than any other
county In the state except Lane coun
ty, and
Whereas, An aprpoprlation was
made by the last legislature to sup
port the State university, which ap
propriation was held up under the
provisions of the referendum law of
this state, by a few misguided Ignor
amuses in the western part of this'
state, and the same will be submitted
to a vote of the people of this state in
the coming Juno election; therefore
