The potato industry In the Grande
Ronde valley is becoming a money
bringing venture on the part of far
mers. This Is verified In the conserv
ative estimate of the. number of car
loads shipped out of here this winter.
The shipment of last year's crop Is In
full swing, in fact . has passed the
zenith and although there are close
to 30 carloads yet to be shipped, the
end Is In sight.
A Denver firm, through the Geddes
Bros., has purchased 20 carloads, and
five of the lot have already been
shipped. Three more are being load
ed and prepared for shipment today.
The Denver company ha paid 60 cents
on this lot.
Ramsey & Oldenburg have pur
chased about 30 carloads so far and
there are eight cars yet to be shipped.
J. D. McKennon Is another shipper
who has been buying and shipping
this winter. .
A close estimate of the potato crop
for last year, which by the way, was
the largest and best In many years, if
not In- the history of the potato In the
valley, gives the total shipments to out
of the county points, at 100 cars.
There is no doubt but that next
year will see this amount doubled.
