Slide at Shale Mountain Near Wyotli Cost Company Dear. General Manager J. P. O'Brien and Chief Engineer Boechke, of the Harrl man lines In this territory, will ut tempt to solve the problem of the Shell mountain landslides, which each year costs the O. R. A- N. hundreds of thou sands of dollars, and frequently par alyzes both passenger and freight traf fic, says the Telegram. The matter will be taken up as soon as Mr. O'Brien Joins Chief Engineer Boschke, Division Superintendent Campbell and Division Engineer Bollona, up the line. Mr. O'Brien left here this morning, and will make a thorough Inspection of the whole line, together with the branches and new extension work, before he returns next week. The "trouble mountain" near Wy eth will come In for most serious at tention 'on his present trip, and It Is understood that the company has reached the conclusion that nothing but the expenditure of enormous sums of money will ever dispose of the fre quent blocking of the line by mud slides similar to those which have laid out the line during the past five days. It Is conceded that if these slides continue with the frequency htat have been recurring of late, the whole, O R. A N. track at that point will be pushed out Into the Columbia river. The present trip of Mr. O'Brien Is likely to result in greatly renewed ac tivity In construction work, both in improvement of roadbed and track. and the rebuilding of the line In places, In order to put the road in Shape to compete more effectively with the North Bank road on the other side of the river, the Hill line being in a po sition to wrest the greatest bulk of business from the Harrlman road In the rich competitive territory SUMMONS. . the Circuit Court of the State of In Oregon for Union County.
