Lata Thursday afternoon the above
message was received by John McCourt
and It was the first official lnforma
in he had received to the effect that
he waa confirmed aa United States
district attorney ' for Oregon, says a
Pendleton paper, .'.
Now that he has been agreed upon
by the delegation, nominated by the
president, favorably reported by the
committee, confirmed by the senate
and notified to qualify for the office.
Mr. McCourt feels that the district
attorneyship W his and he Is making
active arrangements to commence up
on his duties.
According to Mr. McCourt he will
leave for Portland Saturday or Sun
day, and when' he goes he will take
his family with him so that no fur
ther trips back and forth will ' be
necessary. He will give up hts home
here and has already received offers
from several - would-be purchasers.
But while he will live In Portland the
new district attorney will still keep tils
residence In thia city. While having
his future home and headquarters In
Portland he will be "from Pendleton"
for some time to come, at least.

D. Fltsgerald, proprietor of the La
Grande Iron works, of this city, has
a force of men at work this morning
building an addition to hie plant. The
new room will occupy a ground ppace
18x14, and will be covered with cor
rugated steel. It will be used as a
store house for a carload of Iron and
blacksmith coal which will arrive In a
few days.

noon. A banquet followed the regular
