Washington Experts Will Talk to
Farmer on Orchards. , ,
On March 27 and 28 the entire line
of the Spokane A Inland railway Will
be traversed by a special fruit train,
bearing an exhibit and a number of
well known horticultural authorities
who will lecture at every point of Im
portance, saya the Spokane Chronicle.
Spraying and cultivating, how to save
the fruit corp. and picking and pack
ing with a view to obtaining the beat
market price.
In addition to the officials of the
road the following will be among the
speakers on the trip: L. F. William,
chairman of the executive committee
In charge of the December apple show;
John Hughes, a canning expert of this
city; Prof. W. S. Thorn ber and Prof.
A. M. Melander of the Washington
State college.
"This will be the first special train,
a far as I know, ever run anywhere
In the Interest of the fruit Industry."
says Mr. Hughes. C. L. Smith, chair
man of the exhibit committee of the
apple show, will be on the train for
the purpose of instructing growers. It
is also a part of the purpose to Inter
est the communities along the Inland
In canning factories and packing
plants with a view to saving much
fruit which now goes to waste.
The train will consist of two cars.

A Tribute to Judge Hailey.
The death of Hon. T. O. Hailey at
Portland last Sunday, causes a va
cancy In the ranka of useful and wor
thy citizens of Oregon. He . waa a
lawyer of considerable note and aerved
a ahort term on the supreme bench.
He took unusual Interest In agricul
tural matters and for several years
was proprietor of one of the best
farms In Umatilla county. He believed
In thoroughness in farming, loved
choice livestock, and did a great deal
to further the agricultural Interests of

El Paso, March 20. New. Mexico's
delegation In the Chicago convention
will be selected at a convention of the
republicans of the territory In Sliver
City tomorrow. Secretary Taft Is a
great favorite throughout the terri
tory and his unanimous Indorsement
for the presidency by the convention
la a foregone conclusion. At Its meet
ing taat month the republican territor
ial committee Indorsed Taft, all the
